Polyvinyl alcohol is a water-soluble synthetic polymer obtained by the alcoholysis of polyvinyl acetate (alkaline saponification). Different types of polyvinyl alcohol differ by different degrees of hydrolysis and molecular weight.

Therefore, solutions prepared with PvOH can present different physical and chemical properties.

Polyvinyl alcohol is an excellent emulsifier, film former, has excellent adhesive properties and viscosity modifier. It is a product resistant to oils, fats and solvents.

The main applications are: architectural, automotive coatings, paper, adhesives, polymerizations, textile finishing, microencapsulations.
